Liisa Vexler is a medical writer with more than 15 years experience in the health and medical field.
Liisa's skill set includes an ability to understand, critically evaluate, and summarize clinical research articles. She has experience in medical education, patient education, research grant applications, research ethics board applications, writing for the web, media releases and newsletters, as well as developing slides for oral presentations. Liisa believes that sound scientific evidence and compelling storytelling create the most impact on the reader.
Liisa began her career in 1998, spending over two years in the Washington DC area, first at the Pan American Health Organization, then at Westat, a contract research organization where she managed epidemiological studies for the National Institutes of Health. Liisa's passion for communications was born here, and she attended George Washington University's Introduction to Public Relations course.
Upon returning to Canada, Liisa spent several years at the Ottawa Health Research Institute coordinating spine surgery research studies and clinical trials in orthopaedics and neurosurgery. During this time, she indulged her thirst for knowledge with a graduate level epidemiology course at the University of Ottawa.
Before beginning writing full-time two years ago, Liisa worked at the Canadian Public Health Association as the senior manager for the Canadian Coalition for Immunization Awareness and Promotion (now Immunize Canada).
Liisa graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Education (secondary). She went on to do a Masters in exercise physiology at the University of Ottawa. Her thesis work was done at the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre working with patients undergoing chemotheraphy for breast cancer.
In addition to writing for health and medical clients, Liisa is the author of a book entitled The Family Freedom Project: A Step-by-Step Guide to Living Abroad with Kids. From Dream to Plan to Reality. She blogs about her family's location independent lifestyle at FamilyFreedomProject.com.
